A SPECIAL FUNDRAISING EVENT TO BRING PEACE AND BENEFIT PROSTITUTED CHILDREN
With a high-minded goal to reach a world-wide audience for the sake of eliciting inner peace, and to raise funds for a life-changing documentary, the buzz is starting for a global event that promises to bring peace to all participants, and bring awareness to a tragic reality taking place on our own streets.
According to UNICEF, two children per minute are trafficked for sexual exploitation in the world. According to the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Work, approximately 300,000 children in the U.S. are at risk of commercial sexual exploitation. Some organizations have estimated this number as high as 800,000, based on a Congressional testimony in 2005. Teens all over the country are being recruited from local shopping malls, schools and the Internet to be manipulated or forced into prostitution.
So what can be done? For one – people can simply breathe. This according to Legacy Productions’ event planners, Jim Ellis and Jennifer Geronimo, who are producing the world-wide event 1000 Breaths; A Special Fundraising Event to Bring Peace to Our World, Dec. 31, 2010 in San Diego. Their vision is clear: New Year’s Eve Day, 11 a.m. PST, 1,000 people (or more) taking part – via radio simulcast or in person at San Diego’s prestigious Scottish Rite Event Center – in a special, large-scale “breathwork” session.
The breathwork process – lead by 20-year certified “breathwork facilitator” Ellis, along with a number of support personnel – is a stress management technique that has served millions across the globe dating back to its use as “pranayama” in ancient India. In its modern format, participants lay down on a mat, close their eyes and take in deep, conscious, connected breaths in order to go deeply within. In this state – experienced over an hour time period – participants go direct into a higher state of awareness and return to a state of peace.
Ellis says the inaugural event – planned to be an ongoing annual affair – will be a time for people all over the world to embrace inner peace, but it will also help raise funds to produce a documentary curbing the trend towards child sex exploitation.
“Indoctrinated,” the educational documentary film aimed at prevention, will be shown to children and their parents with the purpose of revealing the indoctrination process used on prostituted children, increase awareness of the violence that impacts sexually exploited youth, and educate youth and families of the recruitment tactics, signs and indicators of child sex trafficking. With a vision to take the documentary to middle schools across the country, already six San Diego schools have expressed interest in showcasing the film.
Whereas many celebrities – such as Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher, Shirley MacLaine, Susan Sarandon and Sarah Jessica Parker – are championing the cause of stopping child sex trafficking, this documentary will be able to go direct to the audience needing to be warned about the horrors taking place in our community.
Said Ellis, “Besides the obvious benefit of preventing the further abuse of our prostituted children, this event is a chance to take one hour out of your busy, hectic, stressful life and share a time of inner peace and relaxation. It is going to be a great experience for not only people individually, but for a world in need of some stress relief.”
